Project Overview: Hardbuilt was tasked with transforming an old residential block at 57 Thorn St, Ipswich, into a modern, two-storey commercial healthcare facility. The project included a complete demolition of the existing dwelling, meticulous asbestos abatement, and the construction of a new, state-of-the-art building.
• Key Challenges: The site presented significant logistical hurdles due to its location on a major feeder road with a hospital, schools, and an ambulance depot nearby. Additionally, other builders deemed tilt-panel construction unfeasible for the site, recommending core-filled blocks instead.
• Innovative Solutions: Our team took on significant design responsibility with limited drawings and ensured full compliance with stringent accessibility standards (Australian Standard 1428.1). We embraced the challenge of using
tilt-panel construction, developing a creative scheduling solution that optimized the limited on-site space and led to significant cost efficiencies.
• Result & Recognition: The final product is a stunning healthcare hub with a commercial lift for disability access, multiple reception areas, and dedicated treatment spaces, significantly enhancing healthcare accessibility for the Ipswich community. The project was recognized as a winner at the
Master Builders Queensland Housing & Construction Awards 2025
